Sample Question 1:

A body of mass 2 kg is moving with a velocity of 3 m/s along a straight line. A force of 6 N is applied in the direction opposite to its motion. How far will the body move before coming to rest?

Solution:

Using the equation v² = u² + 2as, where final velocity v = 0, initial velocity u = 3 m/s, acceleration a = F/m = -6/2 = -3 m/s² (negative because it's deceleration).

0 = 3² + 2(-3)s ⇒ 0 = 9 - 6s ⇒ s = 1.5 m

The body will move 1.5 meters before coming to rest.
